Just noticed that there are still quite a few people who have not subscribed to my new blog site. Please take a moment to check it out and if you would still like to keep track of my latest paintings and painting / art related comments, that is the place to do it! Subscribe by clicking on the RSS icon at the bottom of the page and on the contact page of my new website.

I will not be updating this Blogspot site any longer, but since you're reading this I figured I would at least post some of the paintings that are on the newer site.

I've been having a very rewarding time doing lots of plein air painting this past few months and I would love to share them with you! (Link updated 12-8-15)

Tuula's Milk Goats 18x24 Acrylic NFS

A gift for Tuula, who makes magnificent cheese from these goat's milk.
In a departure of style, I thought the subjects were a bit comical and needed to be rendered in a lighthearted way.

Kings Estate Winery Lookout 12x16 oil Sold

Painted on location yesterday.

It was a warm and sunny day, yet a bit atmospheric because of the moisture coming over the coastal range.

Iris and Hills 14x11 oil Sold

From a demo showing students how to paint "plein air" style from a photo.

Iris Fields (finished) 12x16 Sold

Willamette River /Plein Air (June 6) 12x16 $275

On location with a 1st time plein air student and the weather was very overcast. Needless to say it was a challenge for me to find contrasting values and color diversity in this landscape. The student had his share of learning on that day!

Iris Fields / Kaiser, Oregon

This one still has bugs on it and is quite wet. I was anxious to post and share cause it was such a great spot and I liked the way it turned out.

Lake Natoma III / 2011

A beautiful Sacramento day. Was surprised to see the grass on the hills this dry, this early in the season. Maybe the recent rains brought back some green?

McKenzie River Scene 8'x10" oil

First painting of the day at the McKenzie Orchards Bed & Breakfast.
Beautiful lodging, access to the Mckenzie River and its lovely surrounding scenery. Who could ask for more?

Poplars at Days End 8"x10"

Painting at the McKenzie Orchard Bed & Breakfast on Friday the 13th. I must admit that is one of my luckiest days. The weather was great, the scenery inspiring, the company of friendly plein air painters, and wonderful hosts! The owners (Tom & Karen Reid) were so gracious, warm, and generous in that they provided a delicious gourmet lunch for all of us starving artists. Karen is an expert chef and teaches cooking classes there as well. I highly recommend this place for any special occasion!

Aspens in Mist 16"x12" oil

Although I've seen Aspen trees painted many times before, it is usually during the Fall when their leaves are yellow. Of course I had to be different and paint them while it still looks like winter. It was actually last week that I was in the Cascade Range along the Brightenbush River and was surrounded by these lovely trees. Not much color going on but the patterns of these trees are what interested me.

Jade Green River II oil 8" x 10" sold

I've been attracted to the Oregon rivers here in the local mountain regions.
The overcast skies actually heighten the color of the water.
Right now I'm working on a painting of some Aspen trees by the river at Brightenbush. Never have painted Aspens before and it is a challenge. Will be posting the finished work if it works out well.

Hills Aglow 18"x24" Sold

A good thing to remember; creativity begins with simple ideas. I find that simplification of the painting process lends itself to a more pleasurable experience and usually a better product.

Jade River II 8"x10"

Better picture of this one

Simply a beautiful place along the North fork of the Williamette River.

Oregon Hills by the Coast 8' x 16" oil on canvas

A scene looking east from Hwy 101, south of Bandon. Here's a quote I recently heard that I would like to share: "Fashion is a habit, true art is forever"!

Distant Mist 16"x20" Oil Sold

I made a few changes to this one. It works better with more warmth in the background and definition to the foreground tree. I'm getting ready for a couple of local shows. Part of the sales will go to Doctors Without Borders. I would like to do what I can to help the people of Japan.

Two versions of the same scene; Cape Blanco / Looking south along the coast I'm so glad there are still folks out there that appreciate an original work of art!

Lake Natoma 1 (8"x8") oil on canvas $125

Photo of the painted scene - minus the pole

Painted on location 2 weeks ago. It was a gorgeous, spring-like winter day. It dosn't get much better than that! Grateful for the opportunity...

Lake Natoma II

A photo of where we painted...
*Notice I moved things around for a better composition. The photo does not capture the intense light that was on the scene while we painted

Plein air painting on an unusually warm, spring-like day. Great Day!
